Essential Information About Notarized Translation
Legal Framework
Per Article 81 of the Fundamentals of Legislation on Notarial Activities, a notary certifies the authenticity of the translator’s signature on the translated document.
Technical Requirements
- The notarized translation must encompass the entire text of the source document.
- The translator’s signature must appear beneath the translation.
- The translation is physically attached (stitched) to the original document or its notarized copy.
Liability Disclaimer
⚠️ We assume no responsibility for errors contained in the original official document. Liability is limited strictly to translation accuracy.
- The bureau is not authorized to add, omit, or correct information in the translation.
- If doubts arise regarding the authenticity or quality of the source document, the bureau consults with the notary before proceeding.
- Should a notary decline to certify the translator’s signature due to concerns about the source document (unrelated to the bureau’s work), the bureau may certify the translation using its official stamp instead.

Licensing Note
No special license, permit, or authorization is required to perform or certify translations in Russia. The legal basis for notarizing a translator’s signature is a written agreement between the notary and a specialist holding a higher education diploma in linguistics, confirming their qualification to perform translations.
